I'm good with whatever happens (destruction or interesting future scenario- cities on oceans is for me, all the way).
Is it part of the human typology to think that it can be the ONE civilzation to make it through to Type ONE- to go where civilizations before have failed to go because of our kickass willpower?
If this generation is imporant and we were to frame our “selves” as players in this macrocosmic game of civilization evolution/survival- is it plausible that the framed constitutional representations that are: our operational identities (complete with “unique” referents)- were formed prior to this radical emancipation in phenomenon and experience? Like.. we were cool angel people that were all like, “Check it out! Want to become a selfish dickhead on planet Earth and see if we can't be cocky enough to push it into what they themselves will eventually term, 'Type 1'?”
I wonder…
That implies a choice of course, while our experience counters that pre-incarnational implication. It really doesn't feel like I chose to be a caucasion male living in North America. Not that I'm not grateful.
But the phenomenological capitulation of non-choice causes me to feel a little wierd to be born right now. Who'd want to be partially responsibly (by virtue of being alive) for the advancement of their species?
Nothing makes any sense, you see, when you get right down to it. Absolutely nothing.
Interesting theoretical paradigm, almost like Cosmic Anthropology, in which the “Stages of Man” end up in Galactic, Robotic outreach programs.
The last thing I would want is robots that create robots, exponentially. Hasn't he seen “Terminator”?
He's such a brilliant thinker, a THEORETICAL PHYSICIST. That means everything he says is theory, stuff he thinks up, given his knowledge of proved Einsteinian Physics.
I love his mixture of pop culture, science, science fiction, and doom.
Respectfully, I do not agree that our generation is the most important generation to have lived on this planet. Every generation thinks that (and they're right because they're alive, everybody else is dust, and unborn babies haven't gone to Harvard yet.)
I totally agree with Jewdist. Anything to feed the human ego. If this is true, then at any point in history, that particular generation has been playing a crucial role…from eating raw to cooking, from believing in a geocentric cosmos to a heliocentric one, from stone tools to metal tools, and so on!!! I too am going to read his other books! Ofcourse, speaking from my own ego, I did get a kick when he spoke of grandchildren, for I have three and a fourth on its way…and truly they are our continuity. In their interest, and all of humanity, keeping a sane earth around for them to inherit does make sense.
